Actors biography:

Sydney got her HND at Dundee & Angus College, where she took part in productions of Image of an Unknown Young Woman as A, verbatim piece The Laramie Project as Reggie Fluty/Trish Steger/Kristin Price, and The Wonderful World of Dissocia as Lisa. She then went on to get her BA First Class Honours at Edinburgh Napier University, along with the University award. Sydney played Theresa in her graduate performance of Rona Munro’s Scuttlers – her favourite role to date.

She also has experience performing in musical theatre as this was always her favourite hobby at school, continuing long after. She played characters like Yvonne in Sunshine on Leith, Prince Charming in Cinderella during panto season, and her most enjoyable, Lauren from Kinky Boots. Sydney also took part in cabaret performances – getting the opportunity to sing to different football clubs, perform as guests at competitions, and singing at the beautiful Glamis Castle.

Sydney loves strong female presences, and thinks it’s great when the women are allowed to be as fun, evil and disgusting as the men. Some of her favourite characters are Queen Margaret and Lady Macbeth from Shakespeare’s works, Isobel from Mike Bartlett’s Bull, Amy from Gone Girl and Amma from Sharp Objects.

When she was younger she worked and performed with the Dundee Rep on things like their Play in a Week programme, Enterprise and also did work experience there. More recently she took part in the NHS Schools Tour giving her some experience in TIE, and was also in short film Glimmers at Traverse Theatre a few days after graduation.

Sydney had her Edinburgh Fringe debut in August, playing Fiona in The Big Day by Milly Sweeney with the company she’s a part of – Pure Class Theatre. She hopes to continue to highlight women and Scottish working class stories as a part of this group.
